LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 47-year-old mother who was injured when her Long Beach apartment caught fire on Thursday has died, coroner's officials confirmed.

The woman and her 4-year-old daughter were transported to local hospitals in critical condition following the blaze. There was no update on the girl's condition on Friday.

The fire was reported shortly after midnight in the 1000 block of Stanley Avenue. Some residents say the smoke detectors in the buildings do not work, but the apartment manager insists they do.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
