Missing Long Island mother and daughter found safe
Iona Costello and daughter Emily Costello had been last seen March 30 after telling family they were going to the city to see some Broadway shows.

NEW YORK (KABC) -- A Long Island woman and her daughter who had been missing since last month have been found safe in Manhattan.

Iona Costello and her 14-year-old daughter Emily Costello, of Southold, were located on the Upper West Side sometime after 4 a.m. Monday.

The two were in good condition, and were being interviewed by detectives. There is no criminality and no charges are expected, authorities say.

The mom and daughter had been staying in a hotel on the Upper West Side. Someone at the hotel recognized the pair and contacted the NYPD overnight.

In a statement, Southold police said: "The NYPD reported finding both Iona Costello and Emily Costello in good health at an undisclosed location. No further investigation is needed at this time."

They had been last seen at a New York City parking garage on March 30. The mother and daughter told family members they were going to the city for a week to see some Broadway shows, according to the Southold Police Department. But they had not returned to their farm in Greenport as expected on April 7, and Emily had not returned to school. The missing persons report was placed on April 15.

Costello's car was recovered at the garage, undamaged. It was examined by police and everything appeared normal.

Iona is a widow and according to police was in a dispute with her late husband's grown children over his will. Whether that had anything to do with her disappearance is what detectives are trying to answer.
