'Luger Bandit' bank robbery suspect caught

CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A man believed to be the "Luger Bandit" was arrested Wednesday in connection to at least eight robberies in San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Riverside counties.

Chino police responded to an armed robbery call at a Chase Bank on the 7000 block of Schaefer Avenue around 9:14 a.m. Responding officers spotted a vehicle matching the suspect's gray BMW 328 in the area and initiated a traffic stop.

Ramsin Jonathan Malek, 32, of Pasadena, was taken into custody without incident. A 'Luger' handgun was located in the vehicle.

Investigators believe Malek is responsible for at least seven additional bank robberies in San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Riverside counties. The suspect was dubbed the 'Luger Bandit' because he orders everyone to the ground and uses a silver gun resembling a German Luger-style weapon to demand cash.

He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for armed robbery. His photo was not released due to numerous ongoing investigations.
