SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man accused of using Instagram to track female college students' locations in Fullerton and steal their underwear appeared in court on Tuesday.

Arturo Galvan, 44, of Menifee, was arrested in early December.

Police said he used photos posted on the social media platform to track down his victims with the help of GPS locations embedded in the images.

Galvan also stole electronics and other valuable items like laptops, tablets and jewelry from his victims, investigators said.

According to authorities, Galvan entered his victims' homes in the late afternoon or evening hours when they were away. On some occasions, police said he entered his victims' residences when they were still at home.

Galvan is charged with 33 felony counts of first-degree residential burglary, one felony count of attempted first-degree residential burglary, one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing an officer, one misdemeanor count of vandalism under $400, and sentencing enhancement allegation for non-accomplice present during a residential burglary.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in state prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 22.
