Man suspected of stabbing 2 people on bus shot in Panorama City deputy-involved shooting

PANORAMA CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities opened fire on a suspect they say was armed with a knife after he was suspected of attacking two people on a bus in Panorama City Wednesday.

Shortly before 3 p.m., a male suspect in his 20s got into a fight on a bus. The suspect ended up stabbing a man in the neck and a woman in the arm, police said.

The male victim was taken into emergency surgery, and both he and the woman are expected to survive.

The suspect then got off the bus, walked to a bus stop and boarded another bus. The driver on that bus recognized the man and called dispatch who then called Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies.

Authorities said the suspect came off the bus with a knife, charged at deputies and they fired non-lethal rounds. When the rounds did not affect the suspect, one deputy opened fire.

The suspect was struck twice, taken to a hospital to undergo surgery and is in an unknown condition.

The investigation was ongoing.
