Man at Wal-Mart fakes heart attack to help steal toys

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (KABC) -- Two men accused of faking a heart attack to steal hundreds of dollars in toys are spending Christmas in jail.

It was all caught on video at a Florida Wal-Mart. Tarus Scott, who is seen in the video wearing a red hat, and Genard Dupree, who is seen wearing a light sweatshirt, loaded up a cart with $400 in toys. The toys included a Barbie Glam Vacation House and a Barbie car.

As they approach the exit, Dupree falls to the ground, faking a heart attack. With the diversion, Scott walks out without paying. As soon as the goods are gone, Dupree suddenly makes full recovery.

The two men then met in the parking lot and fled.

The incident prompted Wal-Mart to examine their security cameras, and they discovered the theft. Both suspects were easily identified because they had long arrest records, authorities said.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says the scam was interesting, but not original.

The men may be charged with grand larceny.
