PACOIMA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An investigation is underway in Pacoima after a man was found fatally shot inside a pickup truck Thursday morning.

The discovery was made around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Vaughn Street. Several residents in the area heard the gunshots and called police.

"The victim was driving his vehicle on Glenoaks, unknown suspect or suspects fired into his vehicle, striking him from behind, killing him," said Det. Hector Guzman with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was identified by friends and co-workers as 47-year-old Gildardo Morales. He was described as a hard worker. Co-workers said they went to look for him this morning when he didn't show up to work.

Morales' boss, Gregg Bennett, said he couldn't believe Morales had been shot.

"It hit me, I was shocked that I not only lost a really good employee, I lost a friend," Bennett said. "We're a small company and we're used to working together all day."

Bennett said he and his staff at his small tile business were so hurt by the killing of their friend and co-worker, he sent everyone home for the day.

"We're all going to get through this together. I don't know when we're going to go back to work, but I know we got to get back to work and we've got to move past this," he said.

No suspect description was available. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Los Angeles police at (877) LAPD-24-7.
