MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A local family is desperate for answers and justice after one of their own was killed in the heart of Hollywood.

Louie Rodriguez was pronounced dead Monday morning after being taken off life support. The 54-year-old disabled man was assaulted Sept. 21 near the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue as he was on his way home from the Hollywood Music Festival.

"He was there on his electric scooter with his dog that he took everywhere with him. He didn't deserve this. He had a lot of life to live," said the victim's sister, Tina Rodriguez.

Police say the suspect attacked Rodriguez after the two got into some sort of dispute.

"He was confronted by the suspect, described as male Hispanic 23 years of age, lean with gage-type earrings. The suspect punched the victim causing him to fall and hit his head on the sidewalk," said LAPD Det. Steven Katz.

Detectives are checking to see if the suspect was caught on surveillance cameras in the area.

Rodriguez's dog, Hopper, now stands guard over the scooter. Rodriguez's family is now clinging to Hopper and as they plead for the public's help in catching his killer.

"Anybody that saw what happened to him, or that was there, please come forward. Please let the Hollywood detectives know. We just want to find him," Tina said.

Given how big the area is where the attack occurred, police believe there are more witnesses. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
