Glendale shooting is city's first homicide of 2016
A Florida man was found shot to death in the front yard of a home in Glendale early Saturday morning.

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A Florida man was found shot to death in the front yard of a home in Glendale early Saturday morning - the city's first homicide of 2016.

Authorities received several calls of shots fired in the 1600 block of Midway Street around 3:55 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man lying down in the front lawn of a home suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was later identified as Phillip Niles Jr., 25, of Daytona Beach, Fla.

The owners of the home where he was found told Eyewitness News they do not know the man or why he was on their front lawn. They reported hearing several shots just before 4 a.m. that woke them from sleep, but no voices.

The investigation was ongoing.

Glendale police closed off Midway Street between Kirkby Road and Towne Street.
