Man shot to death in Venice, LAPD says
On his first day at a new job directing traffic at a construction site, a man was shot to death in Venice and the suspect remains on the loose, Los Angeles police said.

VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- On his first day at a new job directing traffic at a construction site, a man was shot to death in Venice. Police say the suspect remains on the loose.

Authorities said the shooting happened at 7th Avenue and Brooks Court at about 4:05 p.m.

Police originally stated the suspect was possibly wearing a "Star Wars" costume, but officials later clarified the man was believed to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and sunglasses.

The suspect was described as an African-American male, around 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and between 25 and 30 years old.

No arrests were made, and the motive remains unclear. Investigators said one person was detained but later released.

The man who was killed was identified as a worker for Right of Way Inc.
