Man shot to death walking down street in Florence
Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man in Florence early Wednesday morning.

FLORENCE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man in Florence early Wednesday morning.

Authorities responded to the 1900 block of Firestone Boulevard around 1:42 a.m. Detectives said a man was walking near the library in the area when a suspect in a dark-colored, compact car drove by and opened fire.

The victim was shot several times in the upper torso, authorities said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Firestone Boulevard was completely shut down as authorities searched for evidence in the area.

The suspect or suspects headed east down the street after the shooting. It was unclear how many people were in the car.

The motive for the shooting was unknown, authorities said, and it is unclear if the incident was gang related.

No further information was immediately available. The investigation was ongoing.
