ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) -- Ontario police are investigating the mysterious death of a man, whose decomposing body was found in a motel room.

Officers discovered the body Sunday morning after they were called to check on a foul odor coming from a room at the Mission Motel in the 1500 block of Mission Boulevard.

Police said when they arrived, a man identified as Alfred Guerrero opened the door. According to motel records, Guerrero had been living in the room for two years.

When officers questioned Guerrero about the smell, he told investigators that they needed to look for themselves.

Authorities found a body inside the room, and they believe it had been there for several days. The man's body was identified, but his name has not been released pending notification of kin.

According to Ontario police, the man's death may be from natural causes since there were no signs of trauma.

Guerrero was questioned and released. The investigation was ongoing.
