MEAD VALLEY, RIVERSIDE COUNTY (KABC) -- An elderly woman was beaten, pistol-whipped and tied up during a home-invasion robbery in the Riverside County community of Mead Valley Sunday. The three suspects remain at large.

Lori Sizemore lives right next door to where the robbery occurred around 10 p.m.

Police say three suspects, one armed with a gun, broke into the home, forced their way into the front door, and then pistol-whipped and tied up the 65-year-old homeowner, while they robbed the place.

"Everybody's locking the doors, everybody's nervous, it's not the sort of thing that happens," Sizemore said.

The unidentified victim suffered pretty bad wounds, but police say she's going to be OK.

Ellen Brasee, who lives near the victim, believes her neighbor was targeted. The house is hidden.

Residents living in the Mead Valley community are now considering ramping up their neighborhood watch and sharing cell phone numbers with each other. They're on edge, especially knowing the robbery suspects are still at large.

"I was paranoid, I had to go back in to do dishes, and I was just constantly going back and forth making sure nobody was out there," said neighbor Kristen Rodko.

"People are talking about running out and buying guns and taking lessons on how to use them. This is a neighborhood where we never locked our doors, we never had to," Brasee said.
