WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- Whittier police are searching for a 26-year-old woman accused of abducting her 1-year-old son in Whittier Thursday morning.

At around 9:45 a.m., a case worker with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services responded to the 12800 block of Foxley Drive to serve a removal order of the child, when Martha Martinez was seen fleeing the location with the toddler, according to police.

After searching for several hours, the child, Nathan Martinez, was found safe with a family member, according to a tweet later sent by the Whittier Police Department.

Martinez remains on the loose and is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing a tank top, blue jeans and yellow boots.

Anyone with information was urged to call the Whittier Police Department at (562) 567-9240.
