SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A naked man was rescued from a crawl space at an apartment building in Sherman Oaks on Sunday, creating a strange and dramatic scene.

The incident happened in the 14900 block of Dickens Avenue. The L.A. Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Team was called out around 11:15 a.m. after neighbors called 911. They told police the man, who is believed to be around 25 years old, had been running around naked, acting oddly and appeared to be incoherent.

He broke off the cover to the crawl space of an apartment building and went about 30 feet underneath the structure.

Ultimately, the USAR Team was able to get him to come out, pulled him the last few inches of the crawl space and quickly covered him with a sheet.

"We developed different options on how we were going to get him out from under the building, and eventually firefighters who crawled under the building were able to talk him into self-evacuating," said L.A. County Bat. Chief Randy Beaty.

He was heavily restrained and taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
