CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A Nogales High School water polo player was airlifted in critical condition after suffering a seizure during a playoff game against Don Antonio Lugo High School in Chino.

The teams were lining up in the middle of the pool following a game stoppage around 5:40 p.m. when fellow Nogales High School players noticed Alejandro Camacho, 16, was missing.

He was in the bottom of the pool for about 20 seconds before the teen's father and several spectators jumped into the pool and pulled him to the side. Fellow players held his head above water.

Nogales High School water polo coach Marco Garcia says Camacho had a seizure before during one of their practices and experienced a second seizure two minutes into the third period of the game Thursday.

Chino emergency personnel arrived at the school in the 13400 block of Pipeline Avenue and airlifted Camacho to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

At 8 p.m., the Nogales High School water polo team tweeted, "Thank you everyone for your concern for Alejandro Camacho. He is fine and in stable condition. He wants to thank everyone that was there."

Camacho is breathing on his own and is expected to make a full recovery. He is being kept overnight for observation.

Nogales lost the game, 17-12.
