Arson investigators at the San Francisco home known as the "Mrs. Doubtfire House" say someone tried to set it on fire.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The iconic San Francisco house featured in the 1993 movie, "Mrs. Doubtfire" was targeted in an arson attack.

San Francisco police said there were visible burn marks on the garage door and the home's front door as well.

Authorities said the arsonist used gasoline to start the blaze, which occurred at around 8 p.m. Monday.

The homeowner, a doctor, told police he has had an ongoing issue with a former client. Investigators suspect that client is likely responsible for the attack.

Officials said the homeowner was able to put out the fire after smelling smoke.

It was only five months ago when hundreds of people converged on the property at Steiner and Broadway to drop off flowers after news of Robin Williams' death was made public.

For days, mourning fans came to the house to grieve and pay tribute to the actor who played Mrs. Doubtfire.

George Gieger, a tourist from Indianapolis, drove by the house Monday night and was surprised to see all the police cars.

"I think it's sad that kind of a monument like that's involved in something like that because people do come, people come to see it. Kids come to see it. That's why we're here," Gieger said.

Police have yet to make an arrest for the arson attack.
