NorCal woman's tiny house stolen

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Malinda Crichton's new house wasn't burglarized, it wasn't robbed -- it was stolen.

Station KTXL reports the whole house was taken away under the cover of darkness.

It's the hottest style in home and Crichton says she got it to help her own a home to avoid paying rent or a mortgage.

"I'm a singer and a musician...so this is going to allow me to follow my passions," she said.

As it has neared completion, Crichton says she has been shopping for a place to put it. She says her current landlord doesn't want it on his property.

Then suddenly, it was gone.

But the house didn't get far. Crichton found it a few hours after she realized it went missing. It was sitting in a shopping center in West Sacramento.

West Sacramento Police Sgt. Roger Kinney said, "This is the first one I've heard of in my many years of a tiny house, or even a house being stolen."

But Crichton says it's all there, undamaged.
