ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation is underway in Orange after a 47-year-old man was killed in a garage explosion Thursday night.
The explosion occurred in the attached garage of a single family residence in the 600 block of East Oakmont Street at 11:18 p.m., and caused the door of the garage to be blown off. Items were seen strewn across the driveway.
A neighbor, who only identified herself as Sharon, said she heard a loud bang, "like somebody had fallen in the house or something, it shook the room."
The Orange Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the fire. That's when they discovered Erik Christensen's body on a sofa inside the garage.
Neighbors tell Eyewitness News an elderly couple, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, live inside the damaged home with their extended family. Christensen, the couple's son, was taking care of his parents.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known. No other injuries were reported.
Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
