A man is believed to have been targeted in a fatal shooting at a McDonald's in Palmdale on Thursday, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department confirmed.

PALMDALE, Calif. -- A man is believed to have been targeted in a fatal shooting at a McDonald's in Palmdale on Thursday, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department confirmed.

The incident occurred at the McDonald's on the 37200 block of 47th Street East shortly before 12:30 p.m. The gunman allegedly walked in and shot a man who was eating, then ran out on foot. About 30 customers were inside at the time.

"He knew who he was going after. He walked right up to this individual and shot him," said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

According to sheriff's officials, the victim was an African American male. It was unclear how many times he was shot. Authorities said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known. Homicide investigators were on scene and a hunt for the gunman was underway.
