Parents of shooting victim give son's killer home, job

CONCORD, NH -- A New Hampshire man in prison for manslaughter has had his sentence reduced, thanks to help from the victim's parents, reports WMUR in Boston.

Christopher Bazar pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2011 shooting death of his roommate and best friend, Donald St. Laurent. Bazar admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana at the time of the incident and has served three years in prison.

Bazar was granted a sentence reduction Thursday after his victim's parents begged for leniency. St. Laurent's parents also offered Bazar shelter and a job.

Bazar will leave prison and live with St. Laurent's mother. And the victim's father is giving Bazar a roofing job with his construction company.

"Just the end of a long road and the beginning of a new one," said Bazar after having his sentence reduced. "It's a good day. It's a great day."

"He's my other son," Deborah St. Laurent said. "My son loved him. I love my son more than life."

Speaking before the parole board Thursday, the victim's father said everyone involved has suffered, and it's time for the healing to begin.
