POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A police officer in Pomona shot a dog near the scene of a homicide investigation. Police say the two incidents are related.
Police were investigating a fatal shooting in the area of Franklin and Park avenues around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities identified the victim as Abdul Halim Mustafa, a 31-year-old Pomona resident.
What led up to the shooting was not immediately known.
Officials said a Pomona police officer shot a dog in the same area around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. It was not known if the dog survived.
Investigators said this incident is "separate but related" to the homicide investigation but did not provide any further details.
