Barricade suspect, former LAPD employee, taken into custody
A former LAPD employee has been taken into custody following a nearly nine-hour standoff at a Van Nuys home.

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A former LAPD employee has been taken into custody following a nearly nine-hour standoff at a Van Nuys home.

Police received a domestic violence call from the 14900 block of Lemay Street around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. The victim, an LAPD detective, was able to escape the house with only minor injuries.

A SWAT team arrived on scene around 4 a.m., and surrounding neighbors were evacuated.

Authorities said the suspect had access to an AK-47, but they were not sure if she had a hold of it.

According to police, the suspect is a former LAPD communications employee.

Just before 9 a.m., a SWAT team fired tear gas into the home and Tasered the woman to end the standoff. She was treated by medical crews and arrested. Her name has not been released.

Police recovered an "old-style military weapon" at the house.

Police say this was the second time police responded to the house in less than 24 hours for the same call.
