SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A fire left about 19,000 Southern California Edison customers in San Bernardino and Highland without power Monday afternoon.

An explosion and fire was reported at about 2:15 p.m. at an Edison sub-station on Waterman and East Rialto avenues. San Bernardino fire officials said a transformer exploded. The flames were knocked down by about 3 p.m.

Multiple elevator rescues and traffic collisions were attributed to the power outage. No injuries were reported.

The San Bernardino County Unified School District lost power at 27 sites, but the impact was minimal as students were on winter break.

Power was restored to all customers around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
