Presidential debate motivates SoCal residents to register to vote

NORWALK, Calif. (KABC) -- After Monday night's presidential debate aired, many SoCal residents said the candidates motivated them to head out and register to vote on National Voter Registration Day.

"I was torn between the two and now I think I'm voting for Hillary," El Monte resident Yvonne Carrasco said.

David Ackley decided to inquire about making sure his voting needs were taken care of at the Los Angeles County Registrar's office. He said the election and issues surrounding the election motived him to get out and vote.

"I think America is in trouble right now. I think it's headed in the wrong direction. I'd like to see the economy revitalized," Ackley said.

Registrar officials said it doesn't matter what motivates a person to register to vote as long as they exercise their right to do it and make their voice heard on Election Day.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24.
