LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- A couple traveling with their young grandchildren were targeted by robbers in Lancaster early Thursday morning.
On their way from San Jose to Palm Springs, they made a stop after midnight at a Stater Bros. parking lot on the 1800 block of East Avenue J.
The grandfather was approached by two male suspects who demanded property from him. Deputies say when the victim pushed the suspect away, the suspect fired a gunshot into the victim's car with his wife and two young grandchildren inside. No one was hit.
"I unlocked the door and I got in, and they tried to pull the door open and I overpowered them. Then they shot a gun right through the window and shot right into the car," said the grandfather. "I have both of my grandkids in there, my wife. It was just really unfortunate."
The grandfather suffered a minor injury resulting from broken glass. The victims were able to drive to the sheriff's station to get help.
This was the second of two violent robberies that happened in the area overnight, and detectives believe the same suspects were involved in both. No arrests have been made.
The first incident happened before midnight at the parking lot of a Jack in the Box across the street from Stater Bros. Three victims were approached by two armed suspects. After the victims handed over their personal belongings, the suspects got into a car and drove away.
Both incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at (661) 948-8466.
