SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- San Bernardino is considering a complete ban on fireworks within city limits.

Fireworks are already banned in some parts of the city close to the mountains, but in other parts of the city, they're a big part of Fourth of July festivities.

The non-profit group Native Sons of the Golden West uses their parking lot to sell fireworks as a fundraiser that makes about $6,000 to $8,000 every year.

"We give donations to Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, different other organizations in San Bernardino," said James Smith with Native Sons of the Golden West.

San Bernardino resident Rafael Rodriguez said he agrees with a ban.

"Our mountains are always dry because it doesn't rain here, and that's just a potential for a forest fire that we don't need," Rodriguez said.

The city council is expected to talk about a potential fireworks ban at a Tuesday meeting, but an actual vote isn't expected until a later date.
