SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 4-year-old girl and her mother crossing the street were struck by a car Saturday in San Bernardino.

The mother and daughter were walking outside of the crosswalk when they were hit shortly after 9 p.m. in the 600 block of South Mt. Vernon Avenue, police said.

Both the mother and daughter were taken to a hospital. The mother, 40, died of her injuries.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor. The driver, a 30-year-old man, allowed officers to draw blood for an alcohol and drug screening.

No charges have been made against the driver.
