San Bernardino shooting: Man killed, daughter hurt
A man was killed and his 18-year-old daughter was wounded in a shooting in San Bernardino Tuesday night.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed and his 18-year-old daughter was wounded in a shooting in San Bernardino Tuesday night.

The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of South Copper Lane. Police say a man in his 20s knocked on the front door of the victims' home. When they opened the door, the suspect fired multiple shots and then fled the scene on foot.

The victims were found shot in the doorway of their apartment. The 45-year-old man, identified as Phillip Andre Jacobs Sr., was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

Neighbors say they saw three men approach the apartment complex and heard seven to eight gunshots. No arrests have been made, and a suspect description was not immediately available.

Police suspect the shooting was gang-related and believe the suspects were after the victim's son.

"I don't think the father was involved in this. However, the father is the one that actually got the brunt of it last night," said Lt. Rich Lawhead with the San Bernardino Police Department. "It all surrounds the gang violence."

Residents say there has been a lot of violence in the area lately. Late Monday night, five people were shot outside a donut shop. A 24-year-old man died. Police suspect that incident was also gang related.

The violence has some residents looking to move.

"That's a good reason for me to get out of my lease, because we have reported to the managers that it's chaos down in front of our stairs all the time. I fear for my little girl's life. I have three kids," said Demetrius Boyce of San Bernardino.

This latest homicide is the 29th of the year in San Bernardino. That's two more than last year at this time. Police say most of the killings may be tied to gangs or drugs.
