San Jacinto police welcome new K-9 Kyra
Kyra is a new K-9 officer at the San Jacinto Police Department. She will be the new partner for Deputy Mark Wallace, whose K-9 Sultan was killed while on duty.

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (KABC) -- A new officer is starting at the San Jacinto Police Department.

Dave and Pip Reaver, owners of Adlerhorst International Kennels, donated Kyra, a 23-month old Dutch Shepherd, to the department after the loss of K-9 Sultan.

Sultan was shot and killed by a barricade suspect on Jan. 21. He had been with his partner and handler, Deputy Mark Wallace, for two years.

Wallace has started basic K-9 handler's academy with Kyra. The new partners in crime held a meet-and-greet in Jurupa Valley Friday morning.
