SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and four others were transported to hospitals after someone opened fire at a restaurant in Santa Ana early Monday morning.

The shots rang out shortly before 1 a.m. at the El Zocalo Mexican Grill & Seafood restaurant in the 300 block of Tustin Avenue.

According to officials, two of the four people transported are suspects in the shooting. Authorities said they suffered injuries but were not shot.

Investigators said the other two injured individuals were Good Samaritans who were trying to help the restaurant's security guard when the fight broke out. These individuals likely suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

Santa Ana police said it all started with an argument involving two groups of people inside the restaurant. Security guards at the restaurant tried to calm things down.

One of the guards, who wished to remain anonymous, said he disarmed the gunman using his training as a mixed martial artist.

"When he was close to me, then I engaged, you know what I mean? I saw the gun, I wrapped my arm around the gun, you know what I mean? I went two on one and took the gun," he said.

After the suspect was disarmed, patrons at the restaurant pounced on the suspect - but the damage was already done.

Santa Ana police have not identified those involved in the shooting. However, they said the person who was killed was not a security guard or a suspect.

As for the injured individuals, their conditions were not immediately known.

Tustin Avenue between Fourth and First streets was closed due to the investigation. All roads have since reopened.
