SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A basketball player from Golden Valley High School was arrested Tuesday after allegedly walking off the court during a game to assault a student from the opposing school in the stands.

The assault took place at West Ranch High School in the 26200 block of Valencia Boulevard in Santa Clarita shortly before 10 p.m.

The victim, a West Ranch student, suffered lacerations to the face and was treated by paramedics at the scene, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station Lt. Derek Sabatini said.

West Ranch won the game, and the suspect was booked for battery.

Golden Valley is located in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita.
