LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An investigation continued Tuesday into a report of a sexual assault on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Westchester, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to a community safety update published by the school's Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred after 6 p.m. in a women's restroom on the first floor of a campus library and was reported at 7:43 p.m. Sunday.

"In response, LMU DPS is on heightened alert and has added patrols throughout campus," the update stated. "They are reviewing safety precautions in William H. Hannon Library, and if needed, will take appropriate steps to strengthen security protocols."

Campus police declined to specify the victim's gender or whether that person is a student at the university.

No suspect description was released.

The case is being investigated by the Department of Public Safety and detectives from the LAPD's West Bureau.

"Victims are not responsible for the criminal acts of others; the victim is not to blame," university police said in the statement.
