SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A fatal shooting victim was found in a vacant field in San Bernardino Monday night. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Authorities say a passerby discovered the body in the 1100 block of East 3rd Street and called 911 at 7:55 p.m. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Rayshawn Gardner of San Bernardino.

Police say Gardner lived a few blocks away from where he was found with at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso.

A resident reported hearing one gunshot about an hour before the body was found.

The field is used by residents to cut through to nearby stores, police say. No suspect information was available.
