SoCal roads, fuel waste cost each driver nearly $3K per year, study says

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A new study done by the National Transportation Research Group shows not only are Southern California roads in trouble, but they're costing each driver thousands of dollars a year.

About 83 percent of major roads in Los Angeles, Long Beach and Santa Ana are in poor to mediocre condition, which costs each driver about $892 per year in car repairs.

Then there's the fuel wasted during the 80 hours Angelenos sit in traffic every year, and it's another $1,711. If you add in crash costs, that's nearly $3,000 per driver each year.

The study also found that 8 percent of bridges in Southern California are structurally deficient, and that 23 percent of them are functionally obsolete.
