Armed suspects have robbed gardeners in South Los Angeles and Inglewood 16 times in two months, according to the LAPD.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police are investigating a string of armed robberies targeting gardeners in the South Los Angeles area.

There have been 16 armed robberies targeting gardeners in South Los Angeles and Inglewood since March 18, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

In each incident, the suspects approached the gardeners while they were working, showed a gun and demanded money. They also took personal property such as cellphones and jewelry. In one incident, they carjacked a work truck with tools in the back.

They fled on foot, but in some cases were seen leaving in a white Mercedes.

"This is not good at all. Come on, we're out here just trying to provide for our families," said Ramon Vargas, a gardener for five years. "It's just not right."
