Southland community members share their experiences with police

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- Community members met in Carson Thursday to discuss their experiences with police. The meeting took place on the same night as President Barack Obama's town hall event on ABC.

Isaiah Holly of Gardena was one of more than 100 people who attended the meeting. Holly said he's been pulled over by officers more than 30 times.

"I work every day, I wear suits, I wear ties, and at the end of the day, I'm still pulled over still stopped on numerous occasions for no apparent reason," Holly said.

The event, billed as a "Night of Healing," took place at Resurrection Church.

A panel, including a judge, defensive attorney, community leaders and an LAPD official, discussed the need to build relationships with law enforcement and promote peace.

"It's good to protest and direct your anger but at the end we need to have some solutions and some strategies of how we get through this," said Carson City Councilmember Jawane Hilton.

Obama took on the issues of race and policing during a town hall event moderated by ABC News' David Muir Thursday night.
