ST. PAUL, Minn. (KABC) -- A protest in St. Paul, Minn., turned violent on Saturday, as police in riot gear arrested a number of protesters who shut down parts of Interstate 94 and began throwing fireworks, Molotov cocktails, bricks and rebar at officers.

At least five police officers were injured by the tossed objects, including pieces of concrete thrown at their heads.

The demonstrators were angry over the shooting death of Philando Castile just outside St. Paul.

Police also used pepper spray and smoke bombs to try to disperse the crowd.

The protest started peacefully until police began warning demonstrators they would be arrested if they didn't disperse.
