PHILADELPHIA (KABC) -- An investigation is underway in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park after a stabbing, a reported abduction and the discovery of two bound bodies in the Schuylkill River.

It began at 4 a.m. Wednesday when officers found a screaming 20-year-old man in the 2300 block of Kelly Drive who had been stabbed 9 times.

A short time later they found two bodies submerged in shallow water along the banks of the Schuylkill. Both bodies were bound and appeared to have been anchored to hold them underwater, police said.

Investigators found the bodies after the man who had been stabbed told them he had been abducted, bound and driven around in a van with two other men, who were also tied up. The man told police all three of them were thrown out of the van and into the Schuylkill River.

The man told officers he was able to free himself. Police say when he was found, the man's wrists and ankles were partially bound, and he had duct tape on his face.

Medics took him to an area hospital, where he is listed in fair condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators began searching the area and soon discovered the two bodies in 5-10 feet of water near the banks of the river.

Multiple police units remained on the scene for several hours as the investigation continued.
