SILVER LAKE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Firefighters knocked down a structure fire that turned into an 8-acre brush fire near freeways in the Silver Lake area Sunday afternoon, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. in the 2200 block of Allesandro Way, according to alerts from the LAFD.

More than 200 firefighters responded from the ground and air to protect 20 homes threatened on Corralitas Drive, Lake View and Silver Ridge avenues, fire officials stated.

The LAFD said three buildings, appearing to be sheds, were destroyed along Lake View Avenue. Two homes on Corralitas Drive suffered damage, one suffering exterior damage while the other suffered attic damage, according to fire officials.

The blaze was knocked down at about 2:45 p.m., approximately 45 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Plumes of smoke could be seen near the intersection of the 2 and 5 freeways.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately clear, LAFD officials said.

The 2 Freeway was temporarily shut down in both directions while firefighters worked to put out the flames and clean up hot spots. The freeway has since been reopened.
