A man was taken into custody Saturday night after a standoff with police at a Whittier home, deputies said.

WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A man suspected of stabbing three family members was arrested after a standoff with deputies in Whittier.

The suspect has been identified as Alexander Michael, 34. Deputies were called to a home in the 14000 block of Mystic Street at about 9 p.m. Saturday for an assault with a deadly weapon, deputies said.

Upon arrival, family members were outside the home. According to the victims, the incident began when Michael began arguing with family members. He first stabbed his father several times. Michael then stabbed his mother and sister when they tried to intervene.

The family told authorities Michael was possibly under the influence of drugs.

Michael ran into the backyard and barricaded himself inside a shed, deputies said. A special weapons team was requested when Michael refused to comply with deputies. Neighbors were placed on lockdown during the standoff.

Michael was arrested without incident after two hours.

The three victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Michael was booked at the Norwalk Sheriff's Station for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $1 million bail.
