CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect is in custody in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Carson Tuesday night, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said.

The incident occurred during a car club meeting in the parking lot of a local business in the 20700 block of Avalon Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m., witnesses said.

The 28-year-old victim got into some sort of argument with the 20-year-old suspect. A fight ensued and the suspect then took off in his car, striking the victim.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect left the scene, but turned himself in to the Carson Sheriff's Station a short time later.

It's not clear whether the hit-and-run was intentional or an accident. The suspect is being interviewed at the station, along with several other witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information was urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
