HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck in an officer-involved shooting in Highland Park early Tuesday morning.

Authorities said around 2 a.m. officers were near York and Avenue 57 and performed a traffic stop. At some point, they said the male suspect got out of the car and the shooting occurred.

"We don't believe he resides in the area, or if he was in the area visiting someone, or what exactly brought that man to this area," LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said.

The suspect was shot, but is expected to be OK, according to law enforcement. A female passenger in the car was interviewed by authorities.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

It was unclear what led up to the shooting. Authorities were canvassing the area for evidence and found a weapon.

The investigation was ongoing.
