SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected burglar is in custody after he allegedly broke into a home in South Pasadena and barricaded himself in a bedroom early Sunday morning.

Police arrived shortly after a 911 call from inside the home around 4:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Huntington Drive. Neighbor Erica Rede posted photos on Twitter as the situation unfolded. She said she didn't know what to do.

"I was terrified. I rolled off the side of my bed, called 911, because I didn't know where (the gunshot sounds) were coming from," she said.

As officers arrived, they heard yelling from inside the home and then screams. They ran into the residence and discovered a burglary suspect pointing an object at them. An officer opened fire and shot the man in the arm.

After being shot, the suspected burglar ran into a bedroom and barricaded himself. SWAT team members were called to the scene and police managed to get a mother, father and their 22-year-old daughter safely outside.

A sheriff's official told Eyewitness news that the three members of the family did not know the 48-year-old suspect or how he got into their home.

SWAT members eventually talked the man out of the bedroom, taking him into custody without anyone getting hurt. He was taken to a hospital for treatment for his injuries.
