FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected love triangle led to a shooting in Fullerton that left one person dead and another in critical condition, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

The shooting happened near a parked black Toyota Camry at Harbor Boulevard and Ash Avenue at around 1:30 p.m.

According to a street sweeper who witnessed part of the crime, the gunman, who police said is an estranged husband of the female driver, was arguing with the woman on the street. The man then started shooting at the car, where the woman's apparent boyfriend was believed to be inside and was hit multiple times, according to Fullerton police.

Soon after, the alleged boyfriend, believed to be in his 30s, managed to get out of the car and to the sidewalk as the shooter turned the gun on himself.

Both the gunman and victim were transported to a hospital, where the shooter succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The victim was listed in critical condition. The female driver was not hurt, according to police.

What brought the three together and sparked the fight remained unclear.

"We are still actively investigating and we are still interviewing witnesses who observed the shooting," said Sgt. Kathryn Hamel.

Police asked the public to avoid the area, as the investigation continued.
