Suspects in wild chase, with kids in backseat, arrested in Tustin

TUSTIN, Calif. (KABC) -- A wanted man and woman who led police on a dangerous chase with children in the vehicle Wednesday were arrested in Tustin.

Anaheim police detectives were monitoring 24-year-old Juan Monzon, originally wanted for shooting at a crowd of people in Anaheim on Nov. 28, and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Crystal Rincon, during an undercover operation at Rincon's home in the 1200 block of S. Standard Avenue in Santa Ana.

When the suspects were seen leaving the home, police began following the pair until it turned into a brief yet wild chase.

Rincon was said to be driving the vehicle, with two 4-year-old girls in the backseat, and evading police until Monzon took over the driver's seat going southbound on Red Hill Avenue. Police said the man rammed into Anaheim police patrol cars that were attempting to stop the suspect vehicle.

At one point, near Red Hill Avenue and El Camino Real, the suspect vehicle struck another car, rolled over, landed on its tires and the chase continued, according to officials.

Rincon and Monzon turned into a dead-end street, where Tustin police vehicles blocked the pair's path. Monzon rammed into the police cars but eventually surrendered near Andrews Street and Newport Avenue, police said.

"Ultimately, he turned down a dead-end street, was pinned in, began ramming police vehicles again until he was trapped and couldn't go any further. At that point, he surrendered and was taken into custody, both the male and the female," said Daron Wyatt of Anaheim PD.

The suspects were transported to a nearby hospital for booking clearance and were arrested.

The two children who were in the car were apparently relatives of the suspects, police said. They were not injured and were returned to their parents.

Rincon and Monzon were facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and child endangerment.
