Suspicious package destroyed at Chapman University; Moulton Hall closed

ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspicious package near Moulton Hall at Chapman University was destroyed by a bomb squad on Thursday.

The package was spotted in the area of Palm Avenue and Grand Street outside Moulton Hall at about 7 a.m. Public Safety and officers who responded to the scene determined that the object was a possible pipe bomb.

About 200 students and staff were evacuated from Moulton Hall.

An Orange County Sheriff's Department bomb squad also determined that it looked like a pipe bomb and destroyed the object.

Moulton Hall has reopened to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
