LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- A 14-year-old boy accused of stabbing an 86-year-old woman during a suspected burglary appeared in court for his arraignment Thursday.

Tony Brown not only faced a judge during his hearing, but also the victim's family. Authorities said Brown stabbed Annie Bell to death during a burglary at her Lancaster home in June.

Hallie Conley, Bell's daughter, recalled the thoughts going through her head as she looked at the teen, who has been charged as an adult for the murder.

"How could you kill my mother? That was my thought. How could you kill my mother? How could you repeatedly stab my mother?" Conley said.

The murder charge includes a special circumstances allegation because the murder happened during another crime, prosecutors say.

Conley said she is doing everything she can not to focus on the nightmare her family is dealing with. She said they will instead reflect on how much her mother gave of herself to everyone despite being in a wheelchair.
