Metrolink's Riverside line temporarily delayed after train fatally strikes person

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A Union Pacific freight train fatally struck a person on the train tracks between downtown Pomona and Ontario early Tuesday, prompting temporary delays on Metrolink's Riverside line.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. The victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Metrolink tweeted that Line 401 was canceled. Passengers traveling from Riverside to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles were advised to take Line 701 instead.

The tracks were reopened between downtown Pomona and Ontario shortly after 6 a.m., and train service resumed.
