Small aircraft crashes near Hawthorne airport; 1 injured
One person was injured after a small aircraft crashed near the Hawthorne Municipal Airport on Monday, officials said.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was injured after a small aircraft crashed near the Hawthorne Municipal Airport on Monday, officials said.

The incident occurred in the 3600 block of 120th Street around 12:15 p.m. Los Angeles County fire officials described the aircraft as an ultralight aircraft and said it caught fire following the crash.

The victim was described as female. She was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in unknown condition.

The aircraft left the airport around noon and crashed approximately 1/4-mile off the west end of the airport, according to FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor.

Gregor described the aircraft as a light-sport, weight-shift-control plane.
